The flashcards are the mode for your own vocabulary. Instead of ready-made questions, you learn exactly the words you currently need – and the app decides for you when each card is due again.
Vocabulary is organised into boxes – a box typically corresponds to a lesson, a chapter or a topic. Under My boxes you can create as many of them as you like.
There are two ways to fill a box: enter words by hand, or photograph a list via the camera import and have it translated automatically.
While learning, the app shows you the front of the card. You think of the answer, reveal it, and then rate yourself on how well you knew it. It is exactly this self-assessment that controls when the card comes back – so it pays to be honest about it.
The flashcards use spaced repetition based on the proven SM-2 method. The idea behind it: words you know confidently do not need to be repeated daily – words you stumble over do.
Specifically, the app gives every card its own repetition interval:
As a result you automatically spend your study time on the words that need it, instead of going over the ones you already know again and again.
As with Quiz and Word Scramble, you decide in the settings which direction you are asked in: German first, foreign language first or random. The setting applies to all three modes jointly.
